Oak
Oak is a very slow growing tree which results in an extremely dense and hard wood with which to work. Its sawn timber is naturally honey/light tan to mid brown with a typically straight grain.
If external products such as exterior doors and gates are left untreated so that the timber 'greys' with weathering and age, there will be some moisture absorption in this process which will result in a slight expansion of the original completed dimensions. Therefore, we can make allowances for this in the manufacturing stage if advised that the finished product will not be treated. Alternatively, should a customer wish to finish the product with a weatherproof varnish, there will be minimal expansion if the weatherproofing is maintained regularly over the years.
If leaving external products untreated to weather, it should be noted that polluted environments can cause the wood to blacken as it picks up dust and dirt particles. Also, if part of the products gets more exposure to the sun, it will cause it to age and bleach unevenly as the sections in the shade will take longer to weather.

The above products were all manufactured in Oak and finished with a clear varnish to show off its natural grain and colour.
The images below are examples of how Oak can weather and bleach when finished external products are untreated.
